Stormtroopers can take their helmets off in Star Wars Battlefront

Aren't you a little short to be a Stormtrooper, etc? I've recently been playing the Star Wars Battlefront beta ahead of its release this Wednesday, but far more importantly I've been talking to design director Niklas Fegraeus about that most important of options: character customisation.

One of the things I noticed while playing the beta that isn't active yet are 'vanity items'. "That’s basically if you want to show off a bit, or have an identity," explains Niklas. "You have options to alter your looks. You’ve seen some of the exclusive items, being alien races. If you’re a Rebel soldier you can be one part of other races in the universe that go against the Empire".

Character customisation for the Rebels is easy. They pretty much rock up in a different outfit every time they appear on screen. Stormtroopers, though, have a much stricter dress code enforced via risk of telepathic throttling. "Stormtroopers have a very set uniform and we’re trying to capture that, so that the fantasy is fulfilled," says Niklas.

So how can you make your 'trooper feel a bit more you? "You can customise whatever head you want," he explains, "you can take off your helmet. You can customise what animations you do, like emotes". Now that wasn't an option in the beta when I played it but it sounds like it will be in the final game. DICE has already said that female Stormtroopers will be in the game, so being able to take your off hat would make that far easier to show.
