Star Wars: Episode 8 will "explore different things" according to Oscar Isaac
While some have criticised Star Wars: The Force Awakens of borrowing a little too heavily from A New Hope, it doesn't sound like that will be the case for Episode 8. Everyone from JJ Abrams to Adam Driver is really excited about the direction Rian Johnson is taking, and that's a sentiment shared by Oscar Isaac.
While speaking with The LA Times, Isaac - who will be reprising his role as Poe Dameron in Episode 8 - teased what we have to look forward to; “Rian is definitely going to places and investigating things that haven’t really been done in the ‘Star Wars’ universe. For me, it’s so fun getting to explore different things that I wouldn’t have expected in this universe. In some ways it feels like we’re making an independent film. Certain things we get to play with – this kind of intimacy that we get to find – it’s special. It’s been really fun.”
The Star Wars film that understandably has the most attention right now is this year's Rogue One, and we're not going to start to learn just how different Episode 8 is shaping up to be for a while yet. Thankfully, if you're in dire need of an Oscar Isaac fix - and let's be honest... who isn't? - the actor is starring in this summer's X-Men: Apocalypse.
Directed by Rian Johnson and starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Laura Dern, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, and Benicio del Toro, Star Wars: Episode 8 opens in cinemas on December 15, 2017.
