Stephen Sommers to direct Tarzan
The GI Joe director is in talks to take the helm from del Toro
Tarzan is one of those evergreen characters beloved by all sorts of media that just keeps coming back in one form or another.
Now Stephen Sommers is deep in talks with Warners to direct the studio’s planned update of the Edgar Rice Burroughs character, reports Variety .
He is also likely to bring aboard Stuart Beattie, who he has just worked with on GI Joe, to write the script.
This is far from the latest development for the king of the swingers. For the last five years, Warners and producer Jerry Weintraub have been trying to bring Tarzan back to the big screen, with John August writing at least one draft of the script and Guillermo del Toro offered the director’s chair.
