Steven Soderbergh is looking to head into spy terrain by adapting 1960s series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. for the big screen.
The director, who’s been busier than a Gap sales assistant during the Christmas rush, has just jumped straight into filming Contagion after completing Knockout , and is also set to make a Liberace biopic with Matt Damon and Michael Douglas next year.
Soderbergh is still looking for more to do, though, and has set his sights on U.N.C.L.E.
The show, which aired between 1964-68, was one of many spy programmes during that time influenced by the Cold War period. Its pedigree can’t be faulted though – created by Ian Fleming, it starred living legends Robert Vaughn and David McCallum.
What would Soderbergh do with the material? The original series was a single-camera drama. We imagine Soderbergh would keep it tight and hand-held – though with the slick visuals of Ocean’s 11.
