Jessica Bendinger, writer of Bring It On, steps behind the lens for this rebel-without-a-floormat dramedy set in the high-stakes world of teenage gymnastics. This time round, though, rather than focusing on a team of no-hopers, she instead hones in on just one outsider, Haley Graham (Missy Peregrym), who re-joins a gym team she’d recently quit, but makes no effort to fit in.

It’s prime guff for teen girls looking for bitchy quips and personal growth bonding moments, while Jeff Bridges tries not to look too out of place as their driven, grouchy coach. For the most part, it’s a run-of-the-mill routine that fumbles the landing with an overload of sentiment, but still manages to score enough points by being daftly enjoyable. Oh, and Bring It On’s other core audience will love it too. Yep, teen lads – that ice bath’s for you...
