Suicide Squad has a mid-credits scene that you'll want to stay seated for

We already learned of one surprising new addition to Suicide Squad this morning, and another cheeky reveal has also been unearthed following the film's first batch of preview screenings. According to ComicBook.com, the David Ayer-directed film contains a mid-credits scene but not a post-credits scene.

The site says it's received confirmation that the scene appears after the film's first set of credits, referred to as the 'bumper'. These credits use images and stylized text seen on posters and in marketing materials. Marvel often does this exact thing; a mid-credits scene after the 'bumper' then another riiiight at the end of the scrolling credits. Apparently, Suicide Squad has only the first one which the site describes as "pivotal and important."

Early screenings usually hold back any post-credits scenes, so there's a chance that Ayer has another on standby for the film's theatrical release.

That's the sole scrap we've got on the scene, but the fact that it's 'important' naturally lends itself to speculation. To date, Warner Bros' DC Extended Universe hasn't followed Marvel's lead. Man of Steel and Batman v Superman didn't include any little extras at the end. Why the change in formula? Well, as mentioned above, there's a surprise DC superhero who appears in the film and it's possible that their role is part of this mid-credits scene, to set up future movies in the DCEU *coughJusticeLeaguecough*.

Margot Robbie's recently said she's not 100% certain on that Harley Quinn-fronted spin-off, so we can probably count out a nod to that standalone. What about Batman? It's no secret that Ben Affleck's Caped Crusader is in the film - you can see him in the trailers - so perhaps the scene connects to his standalone outing?

Directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman, Suicide Squad will open in the UK and US on August 5, 2016.
