Sundance 2008 unveils its line-up

If it’s late November, it must be time to start thinking about Sundance 2008. Well, that’s what the organisers think, anyway.

After months of poring over entries and considering which films, documentaries and shorts would make the cut, the festival has announced that 121 films have been plucked from the 2,051 movies and 1,573 documentaries submitted.

Among those bigger movies premiering are adaptations of Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk’s Choke, starring Sam Rockwell and Anjelica Houston, The Mysteries Pittsburgh with Sienna Miller and Peter Sarsgaard and Downloading Nancy, featuring Maria Bello.

“There's more personal expression about the daily aspects of lives, about people's state of mind. The fact is that the world around us is a very troubled place, but the response of the filmmakers isn't always dark but is about people finding a way through it and about persevering, not succumbing. You sense the need for an escape from the exhausting pressures of reality,” Sundance director Geoffrey Gilmore blabbed to Variety.
