Bombs away

If you've been looking for another reason to get back into Bioware's Star Wars MMO, taking part in the free-flight PVP space battles in the Galactic Starfighter expansion is a pretty good incentive. Star Wars: The Old Republic's newest PVP dogfighting arena is now open for free-to-play members, meaning anyone can get into the 12-on-12, ship-to-ship combat.

Now with everyone able to access the space battles, Bioware is also adding another ship type: the Bomber. Players who hop into the cockpit of a bomber will take on a supporting role. In the new ships, players can equip various mines that will disable the essential systems of passing ships, slowing their speed or eliminating shields. Or, the support craft can also drop repair droids that will assist nearby teammates.

A new ship type and free access to GSF isn't the only thing Bioware is offering up in today's update, Galactic Star Fighter is also getting another game mode: Team Deathmatch. Each of the two existing maps has a different TDM form. In the new mode, the level designers have added tunnels and routes for players to discover, and without designated capture points to contend for, pilots have free reign to focus on blowing the competition into space dust.
