Syfy Finally Green Lights Bryan Fuller's High Moon Pilot
Show based on a John Christopher (The Tripods) novel
We first mentioned this project way, way back in August 2010, and assumed it had quietly been forgotten, especially with Fuller now working on Mockingbird Lane and the Hannibal TV series. But now it looks like he could have three shows at the same time.
The original story involves two teenage boys, Marty and Steve, who live in Moon colony in 2068. All they know is life inside the large dome, but being rebellious teens they decide to explore beyond their usually boundaries and discover aliens living in the lunar caves. And not the Clangers, sadly.
Jim Danger Gray ( Pushing Daisies) will write the project and serve as an executive producer alongside Fuller and Robert Halmi Sr ( Neverland ).
Back in SFX 207 (and posted here back in March 2011 ) Fuller had this to say about the project: “In developing the show with the Syfy channel, we found out they get so many Moon-based series pitches. It’s one of the most common they hear and I think the reason they chose to explore High Moon , which is based on The Lotus Caves [by novelist John Christopher], is because we have some different elements that you haven’t heard before. We have the element of something growing on the Moon, so how is that happening and how is that affecting the characters? So as writers, primarily our jobs, beside something growing on the Moon, are the characters. We have to make them relatable to the audience. And so I don’t think it’s about people losing interest in space, but finding the right balance of relatability in space. What are people’s stories in space and how are they relatable?”
