Ten greatest things about Mortal Kombat
Rounding up a few of the many moments of greatness and gore
Babality
Fed up ripping out your opponent's spine and twirling it around your head like a meaty majorette's baton? MK2 allowed you to turn him into a cute little baby. Nintendo would surely have been happier if every finishing move was like this.
Censored
The original MK was the biggest thing in the arcades at the time, and fans were itching to play it on home consoles. So when theGenesis version turned out to be arcade perfect but the SNES one had all the blood removed on Nintendo's orders, it was a huge victory for Sega.
Into the pit
For those of us too clumsy to perform the difficult fatality moves, there was always the option of simply punching our victims into a spike-filled pit. Later MK games dispensed with this option, and even pit fatalities required fiddly combos.
