Terminator producer says franchise isn't dead thanks to global box office

With Terminator: Genisys grossing just $90 million at the domestic box office, while suffering a critical mauling, it's recently been reported that the proposed series of sequels are dead in the water. However, according to producer Dana Goldberg, there might be hope for the franchise yet…

"I wouldn’t say on hold, so much as re-adjusting," said Goldberg when asked by The Wrap about the future of the series. "Happily, we live in the world where the domestic number had a level of importance 10 or 15 years ago — I’m not saying it’s not important, it is — but we have to play to a worldwide market. In terms of Terminator [Genisys], the worldwide market paid attention, but we’re not taking the domestic number lightly."

That global number was a worldwide haul of $350 million, which does paint the film’s perceived failure in a slightly different light. "[We will use] data and research to do a worldwide study and really talk to audiences about what they loved," continues Goldberg. "And what maybe didn’t work for them, so that the next turn we take with the franchise is the right one." Back to the drawing board then, but not time to give up just yet…
