TGS 2011: Final Fantasy XIII-2's plot unravels in new teasers, North America and UK release dates set

We may never fully understand Square Enix's affinity for ill-fitting love ballads, but thanks to these new Final Fantasy XIII-2 trailers from TGS 2011, we at least have more insight into the twisty turny time travelling plot of its forthcoming RPG sequel.

Clocking in at roughly three minutes each, the new videos offer a meaty preview of the game's storyline and the new character designs in store for FFXIII-2's returning cast. Both trailers also feature music by international recording artist Charice - which would be perfect if these were previews for 'Touched By An Angel: The Game', but otherwise feel out of place amidst scenes of monsters, magic and space-time paradoxes.

This first trailer for PS3, entitled Promise, leaps back and forth to show Snow, Hope and Sarah at various stages in their search for FFXIII heroine Lightning.

The second trailer for Xbox 360, entitled Despair, stars FFXIII-2 newbie Gaius and delves deeper into the game's time travel plot twists.

Square Enix confirmed last week that Final Fantasy XIII-2 will arrive for PS3 and Xbox 360 in North America on January 31, 2012, and in the UK on February 3, 2012.
