TGS 2011: Woah! Final Fantasy X HD remake revealed for Vita and PS3
Final Fantasy VII fans plan boycott, suicide pact
Sony’s press conference keeps getting better, with Square-Enix taking the stage with some big news that’s sure to excite some gamers while making others fuming mad. No, they didn’t finally show off that Final Fantasy VII remake you’ve been waiting for – actually, if you’re one of the many who has been clamoring for that, you might want to sit down. Instead of remaking VII, Square-Enix is giving Final Fantasy X the HD treatment, remaking it for both the PlayStation 3 and the Vita.
And for as much as this is sure to infuriate hardcore FFVII fans, it really does make sense. PlayStation 2 games can be remade in HD without too much extraneous work, as we’ve seen with ICO/Shadow of the Colossus and the God of War HD Collection. Taking a PlayStation game and making it look like anything less than crap in HD, however, is another story. At that point they’d be literally rebuilding the entire game, and for as fun as that might sound to you, it really makes no sense whatsoever. With the amount it would cost they could just make Final Fantasy XV.
Also, Final Fantasy X is awesome, and we’re really hoping that there’s a trailer to go with this extremely exciting announcement.
