The Amazing Spider-Man to tie in with Venom spin-off?

The Amazing Spider-Man might have a villain of its own in the shape of The Lizard, but according to producer Matt Tolmach, the film will also share a thread of continuity with Sony’s other big Spidey project, the upcoming spin-off for Venom.

“I’m trying to say to you without giving anything away is hopefully all these worlds will live together in peace someday,” said Tolmach at a recent press conference for The Amazing Spider-Man . “Look for the worlds to make sense with one another.”

Whether or not any overt references to Venom are made in The Amazing Spider-Man remains to be seen, but it makes sense that the studio would attempt to think ahead, in view of a potential crossover movie. Meanwhile, Avi Arad has dropped a few more hints as to what we can expect from the Venom film itself.

“It’s an Eddie Brock story,” says Arad. “We want to be as close to the comics as possible, especially in Eddie Brock’s story. But again, pseudo-science is becoming science. All these tidbits about webs, artificial webs, is a huge industry now.”

“Spider webs have unique qualities that will be huge for communications, fibers, and so forth,” he continues. “So we have taken the approach that we want to make this huge amazing movie about Eddie.”

No release date is currently attached to the Venom spin-off, but The Amazing Spider-Man will open in the UK on 3 July 2012.
