On PS3, this mish-mash of game styles is being remastered; refined and rebuilt from the ground up in hi-def goodness that makes use of a new graphics engine that Starbreeze has just finished. The levels are being remodeled to include powerful new post-processing effects. In fact, the artists have had to go back to their five-year old sketches to include elements that were originally pulled because the Xbox couldn’t handle the detail. The original game looked stunning. This new PS3-developed Riddick should look incredible. We say "should" because as to date, the game is looking sparse - but it’s early in development. The true PS3 part of this game comes later, after you polish off the last guard in Butcher Bay and make a break for freedom.
You see, great though it was, The Chronicles of Riddick was a painfully short game, clocking in at just over five hours from beginning to end. The real point to this remake is to flesh out the game and develop the Riddick universe, perhaps in order to set up a future sequel proper.
