1) Played by burly-but-sensitive action man, Vin Diesel of The Fast and The Furious and XXX fame.
2) He first appeared in the cult sci-fi film Pitch Black as the gravel-voiced cold-blooded killer being escorted back to prison by bounty hunter, Johns.
3) Riddick’s back story has altered twice. In Pitch Black it was said he was abandoned in a liquor store trash bin with an umbilical cord wrapped round his neck. In Chronicles of Riddick it’s said he survived a massacre on his home planet of Furya at the hands of the Necromongers.
4) He gained his mysterious EyeShine ability - allowing him to see in the dark - while he was in Butcher Bay at the hands of an ethereal character known as Shirah.
5) Shirah, in the director’s cut of The Chronicles of Riddick also helps Riddick awaken the Furyan abilities that lie dormant within him.
