The complete Pokemon Diamond and Pearl pokedex, part 1

Pokémon Name: Prinplup
Type: Water
Classification: Penguin
Pokédex Number: 008 Sinnoh / 394 National
Abilities: Torrent – Increases the strength of Water-type attackswhen HP is low
Dream World ability: Defiant – User's Attack stat raises two stages for every stat lowered by an opponent (including Attack)
Useful Attacks: Brine
Location Found:
D/P/P: Evolve from Piplup
HG/SS: Trade from D/P/P
B/W: Poke Transfer

Piplup, the cutest of the three starters, is growing up, and headed into the awkwardness of puberty. A crown-like protrusion grows from his beak, suggesting noble aspirations, and his stats improve, but many of Prinplup's moves are still weak. One possible exception is Brine, a reasonably powerful Water attack that doubles in power if the user's hit points are low. Combined with Prinplup's natural Torrent ability, this move can be devastating in a pinch. Strangely, when Piplup evolves into Prinplup, he learns Metal Claw. Perhaps this otherwise out-of-place move hints of things to come?

Evolves to Empoleon at Level 36.
