The disturbing world of Regis III is the focus of new The Invincible showcase, exclusive to the Golden Joystick Awards
The narrative is inspired by Polish sci-fi master Stanislaw Lem
A new showcase for upcoming sci-fi adventure The Invincible debuted at the Golden Joystick Awards 2022, diving deep into the mysterious planet of Regis III.
The footage introduces both the eerie, barren planet on which The Invincible is set and the classic, hard sci-fi aesthetic that inspired it. An adaptation of Stanislaw Lem's groundbreaking novel of the same name, the game calls back to a retro-futuristic setting that's on full display throughout the showcase.
While the world of Regis III might seem familiar to sci-fi fans, it remains a deeply eerie place, heightened by the close, claustrophobic first-person perspective. Main character, the sharp-witted Yasna, and her distant companion, Novik, must navigate its dangerous surface, with every choice having the potential to come back to affect you some time in the future.
In the style of an Attenborough-esque nature documentary, the showcase introduces Regis III as a mysterious, unsettlingly-hostile world - but one that could still contain life. As the camera flits across various harsh, alien landscapes, the narrator explains that the make-up of its atmosphere could mean that something once lived here. Claims that the planet is safe, however, and that it's currently "devoid of life," seem to be undermined at the end of the clip, as a camera drone stumbles upon something deeply unexpected.
While there's not a confirmed release date yet, The Invincible is planned for release on consoles and PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store in 2023. Until then, however, you can keep up to date with the game thanks to an ongoing story, intertwined with the narrative of The Invincible, available on its official website.
