The first footage for Twin Peaks season 3 has no cherry pie but a lot of questions

The first footage for Twin Peaks season 3 has appeared. In a turn of events entirely fitting for the odd TV show, all it shows is David Lynch returning as the vocal-chord busting Gordon Cole, eating a donut. But my god. That donut looks heavenly. Although I’ve managed to shake its golden dough from my mind for now, I’ve still got a few questions about the teaser which are begging for answers.

Is this footage from the show or from behind the scenes?

Perhaps the most pertinent question of them all: is this footage from the actual show? The camerawork is a bit shaky so I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re just seeing David Lynch taking a break between scenes. However, he is in full costume. Plus he’s looking at that donut as if he needs answers as to why it tastes so damn fine. His expression is enough to warrant it being a standalone scene.

What’s up with the soundtrack?

Seriously, it’s like the main Twin Peaks theme in dirge form. Could it indicate that this third season is going to be more disturbing? The tune makes me constantly expect the full theme to kick in, but instead it drags out the preceding couple of bars, slowing them right down. Listening to it makes me feel like I’m in some kind of limbo. But perhaps that’s exactly the right vibe for season 3 - after all, with Dale Cooper leaving the Black Lodge I’m sure there will be some exploration of what it’s like being stuck in-between worlds.

Cole has a hearing aid now - what else has changed?

So yes, I know that Twin Peaks season 3 is set in the present, but seeing Cole with a modern hearing aid and the computer in the background suddenly makes it all seem a lot more real. Seeing smartphones and laptops is going to take some getting used to. Now I’m thirsty for more glimpses of the new, modern Twin Peaks, which will undoubtedly look strikingly different from the original series.

Who’s holding the coffee cup to his left?

It’s probably not Cooper. Regardless, I want to see who Cole’s right-hand man or woman is. Looks like they’re in the middle of a conversation, judging by the way Cole’s eyes flick back and forth. What could they be talking about? Perhaps they’re discussing debriefing Cooper now that he’s back in the land of the living.

What office are they in?

As far as I can tell, there’s a map on the wall behind them. To me that suggests that they’re in some municipal building, the office probably belonging to a public servant of some sort. Oh and look, next to that map there’s lots of photographs of men turning one shoulder professionally towards the camera - previous civil servants, perhaps? And is it just me or do those bits of paper between the filing cabinets have faces on them? Maybe they are in a police office after all, with those faces being wanted criminals.

Where can I get a donut like that right now?

The nearest bakery to me is about to have all their glazed donuts bought by one very hungry girl. I hope they’re prepared.
