The Magicians Nephew could be next Narnia film
But it might be a while coming
Narnia hasn’t exactly reached the heady heights of Harry Potter on the big screen, but the franchise's more than healthy box office returns means that a fourth Narnia movie could still be in the offing.
Walden Media and 20th Century Fox are currently discussing the possibility of making another movie after third adap The Voyage Of The Dawn Trader scooped $300m worldwide.
According to Walden president Michael Flaherty, the next film could well be The Magician’s Nephew , which is apparently the most popular Narnia book after The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe .
“We are starting to talk to Fox and talk to the C.S. Lewis estate now about The Magician’s Nephew being our next film,” he says.
“If we can all agree to move forward, then what we would do is find someone to write the script. So, it could still be a couple of years.”
The Magician’s Nephew is a prequel that takes place before Lion , and follows the adventures of Digory and Polly, who encounter Narnia during its genesis.
There’d also be a role for Tilda Swinton; her White Witch Jardis plays a big part in the prequel’s plot – surely a factor that’s influenced Walden’s decision to tackle Nephew .
“I love The Magician’s Nephew because it’s a great origin story,” Flaherty adds. “You get to learn so much about where the wardrobe came from, where the lamppost came from, where Narnia came from.”
