The new Splatoon 3 Side Order DLC is a fresh and exciting new single-player adventure that all Inklings and Octolings need to try
The Splatoon 3 Expansion Pass DLC – Side Order has arrived, which adds an entirely new single-player mode for all Inklings and Octolings to enjoy. Wave 2 - Side Order, as it's officially known, just dropped and adds a tonne of new content for all Inklings and Octolings to enjoy.
It's really unique too, as you play as Agent 8 who's just woken up to find all of Inkopolis Square completely empty and drained of all colour! It's quite a shock for our usually colour-drenched pals. But, what you're left with is this beautifully monochrome pink-tinged version of Inkopolis Square that you can't experience anywhere else but the Side Order DLC. You can buy the Expansion Pass online at Nintendo.co.uk or via the Nintendo eShop on your Switch now to dive right in, but you might want to hear about everything you'll be able to get your suckers onto first.
Take on the Spire of Order
Thankfully, Agent 8 and Off the Hook's Pearl, who's supporting as a drone, have figured out how to bring back Inkopolis Square's residents and its colour. It involves scaling the dramatic Spire of Order and reaching the top floor, which is going to be no easy feat.
This is a brand-new single-player experience for Side Order that's been designed to be endlessly replayable. It's an experience where even failure will make you stronger. Whenever you exit the Spire of Order, you'll get an opportunity to gain some permanent upgrades that'll make your next attempt all the more exciting.
What's interesting too is that as you move up floor by floor, you'll get the choice to pick from three objectives to tackle, each with its own difficulty level and associated rewards. These challenges range from defeating waves of enemies to more puzzle-based tasks for some serious variety.
Get stronger by using Colour Chips
Side Order gifts Agent 8 with a tonne of new abilities through Colour Chips that you earn by ticking off the challenge on each floor. With over 60 different chips to find, you can use them to give Octoling upgraded weapon speed, range, power, and more. What's even better is that you can mix and match these Colour Chips to create combinations that are unique to your playstyle in a way that's never been seen before in the Splatoon series. Want to tweak how your favourite weapons work in Splatoon 3? Well you can do that with Colour Chips in the Spire of Order.
Make sure you make the most of Pearl
Now while it's easy to get distracted by the return of Splatoon 2 fan favourites, Marina and Pearl, you really shouldn't underestimate just how useful the Pearl Drone is going to be as you scale the Spire of Order. Like Agent 8, the Pearl Drone can be upgraded after every run to have more equipment slots or unlock new special attacks that are going to devastate the map.
The Pearl Drone can be utter mayhem for your foes, the Jelletons, as you drop splat bombs, fire off insane attacks, or use it as a glider to get right in the middle of the fight from the air.
You can experience all this yourself by purchasing the Splatoon 3 Expansion Pass for just £22.49. The Expansion Pass also includes Wave 1 - Inkopolis, which is a brilliant call back to the city hub from the original Splatoon game on Wii U. For more information on the Expansion Pass, you can head to the Nintendo.co.uk or open up the Nintendo eShop on your Switch now.
