This is not a drill. PS5 deals have dropped the console to its lowest price yet this weekend, with the latest generation device taking its first major price drop. You'll have to move quickly on this one, though, because we don't know how long it will last.

We're seeing the PS5 standard edition available for just £399 at Amazon right now - that's £80 down from the £479.99 MSRP. This is a spectacularly rare event, the console by itself has never strayed further than £449 in the past and that was simply its original price before the jump last year. If you've been holding out for a saving on your new device, now's the time to jump. You can still enjoy today's sale if you've already picked up a console, though, we're also seeing the DualSense controller available for just £39.99 (was £59.99). That's a record low price we haven't seen since Black Friday last year.

PS5 deals like this don't tend to hang around too long, so we'll be checking back regularly to make sure stock is still holding out. In the meantime, we'd seriously urge interested parties to head to checkout - this is one of the year's biggest discounts by far.

You'll find more information on this offer just below, and plenty more PS5 deals further down the page.

Should you buy a PS5?

Making the jump from PS4 to PS5 is easy enough with the console's backwards compatibility and even its ability to accept DualShock input on previous generation games. Yes, that price is still high, but with today's discount you're looking at a particularly favorable rate - and not one we expect to see again any time soon.

Of course, if you're stuck in the Xbox Series X vs PS5 debate, you've got one thing to consider; exclusives. Xbox is built around its Game Pass offering, which means you'll save some cash by opting for its subscription to a catalog of titles. However, PS5 has a number of exclusive titles on the roster and heading its way, from Marvel's Spider-Man 2 to Final Fantasy 16. Plus, you can still play via the subscription method thanks to the PlayStation catalog included in PS Plus memberships.
