Primitive humanity believed that an enemy’s essence could be absorbed by eating his flesh. While this superstition has largely been debunked, the idea is alive and well in modern videogames. Kirby, the world’s most recognizable cutesy pink blob, has been doing it for 15 years now: devouring his enemies in order to acquire their powers. Though consoles become more and more capable of realistically portraying Kirby’s victims with each new generation, they still refuse to show us the truth of what’s happening to these poor souls.
