It’s rather apt that one of the finest seasons in the history of science fiction should go out with one hell of a cliffhanger – or should we say, several. President Roslin’s defied Adama Sr by sending Starbuck back to Caprica to recover the Arrow of Apollo; Adama Sr ’s kind of miffed about it and put Roslin in the brig; and Adama Jr’s kind of miffed about Adama Sr, and he’s mutinied against Colonel Tigh. Yes, the humans are doing enough to mess things up for themselves even before you throw in Baltar, the Chief, Cally and co being stranded on Cylon-occupied Caprica, and Boomer’s Toaster programming being activated and causing her to shoot Adama Sr twice in the belly. With the season one conclusion, a show that had made its name with supremely crafted bleakness surpassed itself by delivering a mega-whammy of cliffhangers that would take episodes on end to resolve.
