Thor triumphs at box office again
Bridesmaids does well in second
Thor was king of the box office last weekend, and his reign carried on through to this weekend as well.
Fending off competition from new-openers Priest and Bridemaids , the Asgardian stuck to the number one spot with a further taking of $34.5m – and a total earning of $119m so far Stateside.
Bridesmaids wasn’t far behind, though, stepping on Thor ’s train in second with a more-than-decent opening of $22.4m. Meanwhile, Fast Five continued to be a big earner in third with $19.5m, and Priest bowed in fourth with a pretty low-sounding $14.5m.
Rounding out the top five was Rio , which took a further $8m. In sixth came Jumping The Broom ($7.3m), closely followed by the week’s other matrimony-themed movie Something Borrowed in seventh ($7m).
Water For Elephants continued to do steady business in eighth ($4.1m), while Madea’s Big Happy Family stuck around in ninth ($2.2m). Soul Surfer closed out the top ten with just $1.8m.
