Tobey Maguire likes Good People
Signed on for drama with Niels Arden Oplev
Tobey Maguire may have tossed his Spider-Man costume in the bin, but he’s still making movies, dontcha know, having just signed up for drama Good People .
Adapted from Marcus Sakey’s novel of the same name, the twisty drama will be directed by Niels Arden Oplev, who also helmed the Swedish movie adap of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Using our awesome powers of deduction, we predict that Maguire will be playing lead Tom Reed. Along with his wife Anna, Tom is struggling to make ends meet. So when their downstairs tenant promptly dies, they figure the $400,000 they find in his room is rightfully theirs.
Except taking the dead tenant’s money is a massive miss-step – because he was a criminal who double-crossed “some of the most dangerous men in Chicago”, who are now bent on revenge...
Ah, so that title’s a bit of a play on words, then. Ffnarr. Still, Maguire’s involvement hints that this should be one to watch, so long as the flick keeps its head and doesn't spiral into a daft gangster head-basher. No word yet on who’ll play his wife.
