Tom Cruise guns down drones in new Oblivion trailer: watch now
A fuller look at the dystopian sci-fi
Oblivion has released a new trailer online (via MSN Movies ), giving a fuller impression of the plot of the sci-fi that’s cast Tom Cruise as something of a WALL•E figure.
Clad in a white jumpsuit and living the lonely life of a post-apocalyptic drone repairmen, Jack Harper (Cruise) spends his days tending to the tech that’s targeting the alien threat responsible for all but wiping out life on Earth.
On one of his visits to the planet’s surface (most survivors are based in satellite dwellings), Harper happens across a drone assault on humans. To make matters worse, the person under attack is the enigmatic beauty who has been haunting his dreams (Olga Kurylenko). Naturally, he suspects a conspiracy, and goes rogue.
With TRON: Legacy ’s Joseph Kosinski at the helm, Oblivion was guaranteed to look slick, and it doesn’t disappoint on that front, with Cruise looking right at home in the dystopian environs in the world.
Check out the new Oblivion trailer below now:
It’s refreshing to have a fuller idea of the plot, without having the entire plot spelled out. And it looks like Cruise has solid support from Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough and Morgan Freeman.
Here's hoping that the movie's ideas don't get suffocated under under the weight of the CGI.
Oblivion opens in the UK on 12 April 2013.
