Tom Cruise to play Jack Reacher in One Shot?
He’s in talks to star for Christopher McQuarrie
Tom Cruise is in talks to star as Jack Reacher in Christopher McQuarrie’s adaptation of One Shot, according to a report by Deadline.
One Shot is one of 15 Jack Reacher novels by British author Lee Child. The popular character is a military-man-turned-drifter, who wanders across the US getting tangled up in various crimes.
Christopher McQuarrie is best known as a screenwriter (he penned The Usual Suspects and Cruise’s Valkyrie ), and this will be his first time in the director’s chair since the underrated The Way Of The Gun in 2000.
Cruise is a potentially controversial choice for Reacher, a stoic tough-guy who’s 6’5” and built like a tank.
It could be difficult for audiences to buy the iconic movie star as an intimidating hard man, but if he pulls it off, it could be an invaluable reinvention to launch him into a new phase in his career.
The actor is certainly keeping himself busy with an admirably varied bunch of blockbusters: having finished work on Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol , he’s currently shooting musical Rock Of Ages .
He’s also committed to sci-fi epic Oblivion for TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski.
If he signs for One Shot , it’s expected to go before the cameras ahead of Oblivion .
