Signature of Style: Shigeru Miyamoto has been called the Walt Disney of gaming, the Steven Spielberg of gaming, the father of modern gaming, and the most influential game designer in history. But such flattery is hardly necessary for those who remember the early days of the NES, when games like Super Mario Bros., and The Legend of Zelda made Mario and Link childhood icons for a new generation of young gamers.
Since his designing debut with Donkey Kong, an emergency production that saved Nintendo from its financially ruinous Radar Scope arcade game in the early 80s, Miyamoto's titles can be immediately recognized for their colorful iconic characters. But it's the way Miyamoto's games manage to tap into the core of how games should make people feel that makes them so memorable.
