Tron 3 gets a new writer
Eight Below scripter David DiGilio hired
Disney are finally pushing ahead with plans to make a sequel to last year’s Tron: Legac y , having hired scriptwriter David DiGilio to pen the film.
Though Tron: Legacy writers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis were expected to write a third Tron movie themselves, they’ve become too busy working on their ABC fairytale series Once Upon A Time (which premieres later this year), starring Ginnifer Goodwin and Robert Carlyle.
DiGilio has only one movie credit to his name, having written the script for Disney's 2006 movie Eight Below . That film followed Paul Walker’s Antarctic explorer and his team of sled dogs.
The writer could have a bit of a headstart with Tron 3 , though, considering Legacy already set up a few story strands that could easily be picked up for the next film.
Those include (spoilers!) Olivia Wilde’s character Quorra breaking into the real world, while there’s already a ready-made villain in the form of Cillian Murphy’s shady Encom CEO Ed Dillinger.
Though Tron: Legacy ended up making $400m worldwide, it was criticised for its limp plotting. Hiring a new writer could be the wisest move Disney has made.
