Turok unleashes first footage
Dino-hunter's revengeful plot revealed
This first trailer for dinosaur blaster Turok - heading to PS3 and Xbox 360 next year - finally gives us an inkling of what we can expect from this re-imagined outing for the prehistoric series that originally appeared back on Nintendo's N64. And it's a funny mix of good and bad news, videogame fans. Hit the Movies tab to see for yourself.
The good news is that this trailer features a rampaging Tyrannosaurus Rex, dense jungle environments and lots of explosions. Plus, N64's Turok 2: Seeds of Evil boasted some of gaming's most brutal weapons, including the infamous Cerebral Bore (as in brain-splattering drill bit, not a head-numbingly dreary old man) and we're hoping next-gen Turok can offer a similarly innovative arsenal.
But the bad news is that this updated dinosaur hunter replaces the original Turok's Native American brave-style hero with yet another personality-deficient power-suited man with cropped hair, and appears to follow a hackneyed betrayal/revenge storyline. Oh, and a man bellows "Nooooooo" while standing in front of a burning village. We hate that stuff.
Even so, Turok's dino-nasties are different enough to ignite our interest and, if the breakneck action we were treated to last time we saw Turok up close is anything to go by, we'll be far too busy blasting prehistoric predators to worry about a painfully cliched plot.
