Joining the ranks of sibling film-makers (the Coens, the Wachowskis) are the Polish brothers, Michael and Mark, creators and stars of this offbeat romantic fable in which they play Siamese twins, Blake and Francis Falls, shuffling round together on three legs.
Initially it all comes across as some earnest indie number that's in love with classic David Lynch, but the understated interaction between the twins and hooker Penny (Michele Hicks) puts pay to such assumptions. The sickly Francis arranges the callgirl as a birthday treat for his stronger brother but, rather than delving into any-thing kinky, the three form a gentle bond. The plot then unfurls, charting the failure of Francis' health, and Blake and Penny falling in love. Rich and endearing.
