Two new TV spots for The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug: watch now

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug has released a pair of new TV spots, containing a few new slivers of footage from the next installment in the trilogy.

As was the case with the recent trailer , there's a real sense of escalation in the new footage, with all the dwarf-singing merriment of the first film seemingly long forgotten as the road ahead grows ever more perilous.

And while both new spots keep the footage of Smaug extremely brief, there are still a few lines of dialogue to suggest that Benedict Cumberbatch is very much the man for the job. There are also equally fleeting glimpses of what looks like Beorn, the bear/man shapeshifter.

Take a look at the new spots, below:

It's good to see the elves back in action here, but Thorin Oakenshield's quest to regain his Dwarvish homeland still looks to be the most stirring plot strand in the ongoing saga. Sorry Bilbo, but the man can belt out a speech…

Directed by Peter Jackson and co-starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Evangeline Lilly and Richard Armitage, The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug will open in the UK on 13 December 2013.
