We’ve never had it better in gaming with so many original and different titles available for us to delve into. However, it is sometimes easy to get lost in all the bombastic AAA franchises and major live-service games, making it unfortunately easy to overlook some other, very original titles from the indie sector. In actual fact, the games libraries we enjoy on whichever platform is your poison, are only as rich and as varied because of the range of titles coming from indie developers. And as of right now, that vast library just got a whole action-packed indie title bigger: the classic-Grand Theft Auto inspired arcade-sandbox game American Fugitive is out now for you to jump into and feast upon. If this early smattering whets your appetite, you can get it right now, however you choose to play, on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.

American Fugitive is an action-packed open-world sandbox game that is a love-letter to the classic movies and games of old, re-imagining the wonderful styles, aesthetics and atmospheres of movies from the 1980s and 90s while presenting a modern take on a sandbox games topped off with heavy dollops of classic GTA. The game is played in an original 3D top-down perspective and offers a single-player experience that is a delightful mix of three main ingredients: stealing, fighting and driving. Delicious! An ever-popular triumvirate of video game themes which will get their hooks right into you as you travel across American Fugitive’s breathtaking open world environment.

Welcome to Redrock County, a sleepy American town with an awesome 80s-aesthetic and a booming criminal underbelly. You are Will Riley. No angel, but not a killer, yet locked up for the cold-blooded murder of your dad. Fuelled by grief and a burning desire for vengeance, you plan on busting out of jail intent on finding the real culprit. Once outside, you’ll need to blend with the townsfolk to avoid recapture. Establish contact with the criminal underworld and stay one step ahead of the police dragnet.

It’s a pretty gripping premise and sets the scene for a terrific action-packed game, conjuring up a mix of images from films such as The Fugitive, and games like Mafia and Grand Theft Auto: fighting for justice but seen as a miscreant of the worst order. As the game’s tagline says, justice ain’t always legal, and American Fugitive will enable you to achieve that in an exciting story in an action-filled, stunning open world environment.

American Fugitive’s core story can be completed in around 10-14 hours, but if you get a hankering for completion it will be a much longer experience. Therefore you can be certain to get a great game for your hard earned bucks that’s hot off the developer’s docket, but one that isn’t intimidatingly long.

If you’re a long time fan of Grand Theft Auto - particularly of the original - are fond of the aesthetics and styles of the 80s and 90s, love games that offer pedal-to-the-metal, fast-paced action experiences, and have been on the lookout for something scratches all those itches, American Fugitive is for you and, seeing as it’s available on every major gaming platform, you’ve got every reason to try it out. Now. Seriously.

What’s more, you can have confidence in the game being a quality action shooter as two of the studio founders of the developer, Fallen Tree Games, have action-packed backgrounds in AAA action games such as Black, Crysis and TimeSplitters. It’s available right now so you can serve justice however which way you like on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
