Galactus may not be Jack Kirby and Stan Lee’s most important gift to comics when compared to Iron Man, Captain America, the X-Men, Avengers, or Fantastic Four, but he’s still a pretty big deal, and the kind of cosmic threat worthy of being a game’s final boss. Obviously playing as him in a normal match would break the game, but we still yearn to feel a fraction of his humungous power, and Capcom is finally going to give us a taste. This weekend Capcom confirmed a new playable Galactus mode is in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 along with Galactus-centric, post-launch free DLC.
Above: Capcom also released an extended CG trailer for the title
During a panel at last weekend’s New York Comic Con, Capcom revealed Galactus would be playable in his "own little mode" where you’ll feel a small amount of the world eater’s power while beating on Earth’s mightiest heroes. No more info was given on the mode, but the game comes out in less than a month, so we’ll know more soon.
What we do know is that the game is far from dead after that November 15launch, as Capcom also detailed the first DLC for the update. Heroes and Heralds will be a free downloadable mode that focuses on customizing your team of heroes with different abilities cards and choosing teams of fighters to face off against each other, either defending Earth or working to conquer it as one of Galactus’ devoted heralds. The heralds are alternate versions of characters given the shiny makeover that comes with joining a pantheon that includes Silver Surfer and Firelord. As you can see n the below trailer, there’s a myriad of ways you can customize your team in either single or multiplayer bouts within the mode.
No date was given other than ‘post-launch,” so just as Galactus hungers eternally, so too will we hunger for new details. That wordplay isn’t too much of a stretch, right?
