Universal in talks to make Kick-Ass 2
Jeff Wadlow in line to direct
Kick-Ass 2 looks as though it might finally be getting off the ground this year, with Deadline reporting that Universal are currently in talks to start production on the film as soon as possible.
Creator Mark Millar has repeatedly been quoted as saying that the film has already been greenlit, but it seems as though he finally has some studio movement to back him up, with Universal approaching Jeff Wadlow to take over directorial duties.
The Cry Wolf director has written the script for the sequel, and it 's thought to have received Matthew Vaughn's seal of approval. The original director is set to return in a production capacity, with work on X-Men: First Class 2 preventing him from taking the big job second time around.
Universal have also opened talks with three of the first film's principal players, with Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse all expected to return.
Plot-wise, we're still not sure what direction the sequel will take. The second batch of comic-books has Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl going up against Red Mist's posse of villains, but there's no word as yet on how heavily Wadlow's script is based on the source material. All that matters, however, is that it's happening. Let's hope that green light goes up sooner rather than later...
