Universal moving forward with Bourne Legacy sequel
Second Aaron Cross story on the way
Universal is moving forward with a sequel to The Bourne Legacy , with the studio having hired a new screenwriter to begin work on the script.
Invictus scribe Anthony Peckham has been brought on board to draft the forthcoming sequel, with the focus to fall once more upon Jeremy Renner’s character, Aaron Cross.
Universal had still nursed hopes that Matt Damon might be convinced to return to the franchise, but at this stage it seems the star is still unwilling to reprise the role of Jason Bourne.
Whether or not Tony Gilroy is slated for a return to the director’s chair remains to be seen, but having written all four previous screenplays, the hiring of a new writer would suggest perhaps not.
Renner too has yet to be confirmed, although one would assume he was tied in to a potential sequel when he signed on for the first film. As for Damon? It looks like we’ll be waiting a while longer for that return…
