Untouchables prequel gets the greenlight
Brian De Palma’s ready to direct Capone Rising
After announcing back in 2005 that he’ll direct an Untouchables prequel, it looks like Brian De Palma is finally planning to settle into the big folding chair.
Despite word that he’d be following noir drama The Black Dahlia with serial killer thriller Toyer (which would see Colin Firth getting violent as a Hannibal Lecter-alike charming maniac), De Palma now apparently plans to start work on The Untouchables: Capone Rising next June.
Brian Koppelman and David Levien have written a script that sees the Chicago mob boss ascending to the throne of the most dangerous man in the city. And we’re also introduced to Jimmy Malone – as played in the first movie by Sean Connery – a dirty cop in a city swimming with them. Malone’s first encounter with Capone’s power makes him realise that perhaps there is a way to fight crime without breaking the law – and he changes his ways. Who says crime bosses can’t be moral guardians, eh?
We doubt Shir Shean will be making a repeat appearance, even if he does try to convince De Palma that he can play “young”, but you never know…
