Upgrade or die
Five upcoming PC games that'll justify that upgrade
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
By THQ | Out Q4 2006
Victim of considerable delays and, lately, much paranoid whispering, GSC Game World's hugely ambitious shooter is nevertheless a) coming and b) very much worth waiting for. Set across many miles of painstakingly modelled land around the Chernobyl reactor, the environment is one of the most complete and hazardous ever attempted in a game. Hence the delays.
Whole ecosystems of mutated creatures lead brutal and short lives around you, the worst coming out at night. Players must also deal with other human scavengers, not to mention periodic radioactive blowouts and space-time anomalies.
Can't... resist... upgrade...
Obviously! Because S.T.A.L.K.E.R. leaks atmosphere like Mars, oozes menace and redefines the idea of a game world. All at once.
