Vanguard to swap publishers
Sony acquiring PC MMO from Microsoft
Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, the long-awaited massively multiplayer online role-playing game from EverQuest creator Brad McQuaid, is due out this winter - but who will publish it? Probably not Microsoft, as Sony Online Entertainment is currently snagging the publishing rights.
In a press release, Sigil Games CEO Brad McQuaid said, “As the development process is ongoing and constantly shifting, it became clear that Microsoft Game Studios and Sigil had varying visions and direction for the title’s development. In the best interest of Vanguard, it was decided that we would buy back the publishing rights from Microsoft.”
Microsoft has showcased Vanguard for the past two years; Microsoft and Sigil brought the game by to show GamesRadarjust a few months ago. In a potentially awkward three-way, Microsoft, SOE, and Sigil will all showcase the game at E3. Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is still expected to come out by the end of the year.
