Vin Diesel compares Riddick to Pitch Black
Exclusive: “I think it’s fair to say there’s a lot of similarities”
In issue 209 of Total Film magazine , we sit down with Vin Diesel to discuss his return to the sci-fi character with whom he made his name: Riddick .
Yep, the hulking Furyan is back for an R-rated adventure that’s set to have more in common with the lean thrills of Pitch Black than the bloated mythology of The Chronicles Of Riddick .
Inside the issue (which is available for the incredible price of just £1.99 on your iPad ), we meet face-to-face with the star, who’s currently riding high after the biggest box-office success of his career with Fast & Furious 6 . Here’s a sneak peek at what he had to say about the return to Riddick :
“Yeah, I think it’s fair to say there’s a lot of similarities with Pitch Black , which was something that the audience, the fans, really wanted. They wanted us to leave the PG-13 behind and go back to an R. We all know how hard that is to do in Hollywood…”
And on his scene-stealing co-star (a pooch who acts as his companion), Diesel told us:
“The dog is in some ways my co-star, which is very Riddick.” Shades too of Mad Max ? “It could look a little Mad Max -y,” he said. “Funny you should say that. I remember back when we were shooting Pitch Black , one of the actors was saying, ‘Oh, this is just going to go to DVD. Why are we killing ourselves?’ And I remember the DP, David Eggby, saying, ‘I remember working on another movie where someone said that. It was called Mad Max !’”
Riddick opens in the UK on 4 September 2013. For much more from Vin Diesel, pick up issue 209 of Total Film magazine, which is out now!
