Warehouse 13 ’s third season ended with a bang – literally – as the eponymous storeroom went kaboom, and HG Wells and Mrs Frederic met the big adios. It’s not that surprising to learn, however, that we haven’t seen the last of the Warehouse.
“Our show is not called ‘Large Crater In The Ground 13’” laughs Saul Rubinek, who plays Warehouse boss Artie Nielsen. “There are consequences to reconstituting Warehouse – which is going to happen, I can tell you that – and the consequences are so dark that they’ll affect the entire future of the show. They affect every character irrevocably, and the writers have taken more chances this year than they have in previous years.”
“I think there’s a colour that we’re painting with this season that perhaps we’ve never seen before,” adds Joanne Kelly (Agent Myka Bering). “We’ve lost Mrs Frederic, Jinks, HG and the Warehouse, so I think that the series is painting with a darker colour, but we’re still painting with all the colours that we had.”
“There’s not a huge tonal shift for the show in general,” chips in screen partner Eddie McClintock (Pete Lattimer).
Allison Scagliotti (Warehouse whizkid Claudia Donovan) confirms there’ll also be revelations this year. “We also learn about the birth of an artefact – how an object becomes imbued with the thing that gives it power. And we really explore the fact that no decision we make as Warehouse agents is black or white. It’s all a shade of grey – you have to consider how the ends justify the means and who will be harmed by using this artefact to potentially protect the greater good.”
Warehouse 13 returns to US screens tonight on Syfy.
