Rings Settlement
New Line Cinema and the estate of author JRR Tolkien have come to an out of court settlement, removing the last legal barrier which could have prevented the filming of the Guillermo del Toro‘s Hobbit prequels. According to The Hollywood Reporter the deal was worth well over $100 million dollar to the Tolkien estate and Rings publisher Harper Collins, though a confidentiality clause in the agreement prevents either side from revealing details. The Tolkiens sued New Line in February 2008 claiming the family trust was paid only $62,500 for the right to make the three films and was owed 7.5 percent of gross receipts. The settlement heads off a scheduled October trial between heirs of the “Rings” author and New Line. “The Trustees acknowledge that New Line may now proceed with its proposed films of ‘The Hobbit,’” JRR’s son Christopher Tolkien said.

Although it looked like Warner Bros had given up on its live action version of anime classic Akira, that’s not the case, according to Collider.com . The writer of the article claims to have inside info that Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby are about to turn in their version of an Akira movie and the reason why the project has been so quiet is they’ve been hard at work trying to get the script right.” Fergus and Ostby performed script duties on Children Of Men and Iron Man.
Cage Not In Green Hornet
Despite previous reports, Nicolas Cage will not be playing the villain in director Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet, says Heat Television : “The actor and the studio were not able to come to terms on a deal.”
Resident Evil After Afterlife
Even though preproduction on the fourth Resident Evil movie, Afterlife (due to be shot in 3D) is just swinging into action, Sony is already considering a fifth movie, which will take the form a "quasi reboot", according to Bloody Disgusting . "Quasi reboot" appears to be a term the site has coined for a franchise that needs to find a replacement for a lead actress who's becoming too expensive.
