Weinsteins nab Bob Marley biopic
Adapting his widow’s book…
Given that a Bob Marley has been floating around Hollywood’s development pond since at least 1999, you’ve got to wonder whether Will Smith’s rhapsodising about the legendary performer was some sort of audition for the role.
But Smith is not attached to this latest attempt to get a Marley movie up and singing – but The Weinstein Company thinks it has the best shot as it has now nabbed Rita Marley’s book No Woman No Cry: My Life With Bob Marley as the basis for a film. "This is about a girl from the ghetto and a boy from the rural areas," Marley told Variety. "It's more than being a superstar - we have trod the rocky roads. It's more than just a story, it's a reality."
There’s no director, writer or actor attached yet, but Variety has all the other pertinent details.
