"What is the Darkness" trailer gets you caught up for The Darkness II
Hear the series' backstory from a rambling psychopath
Sometimes it's hard to jump into a sequel without playing the original. The story, the characters, the mechanics – they're often lost on new players. 2K Games is hoping to avoid this pitfall with The Darkness II by releasing a trailer entitled "What is The Darkness," in which Johnny Powell gives a full run-through of the first game’s plot. Powell’s rambling do a good job filling in the gaps to make the narrative easy for new players to understand, while reminding fans of why they liked the first game so much.
The trailer is also chock-full of new footage of The Darkness II, which looks like one of the most brutal, bloody games we’ve seen in a while. Watching Jackie Estacado’s Darkness-fueled demon arms literally rip enemies apart is simply delightful, and we're excited to control them ourselves. We also get to see some of the new moves in action, like using The Darkness’s tentacles to grab a car’s door off to use it a shield – right before throwing it at a foe to cut him in half. Yeah, it's sort of awesome.
The Darkness II is due out in February, which gives you plenty of time to go back and play it if this trailer doesn't give you enough satiation.
