George Lucas tells us what’s next for him – and Star Wars...
Bet you thought that’d be it from George Lucas for the next 10 years, right? Wrong. The Beard is already set on his next movie – and this time it’s war. “Redtails is a story of African-American fighter pilots in World War Two,” Lucas reveals to Total Film, looking a little weary and definitely relieved to be talking something non-Sith. “They were the best – the only escorts in World War Two that never lost a bomber.”
A straight swap, then: X-Wings for Allied fighters. “It’s pretty inspiring,” he adds. “I’ve been working on it for about 15 years and now I’m going to focus on it along with the next Indiana Jones.” So definitely done with this Star Wars lark? Definitely? Lucas smiles wryly. “It’s like the kids going off to college,” he says knowingly. “I’m going off to do my thing. It’s going off to do its own thing. But it’ll come back to me when it needs money...”
