Winter Holidays 2011: What is your MMO planning?
Maybe it's virtual coal
Lord of the Rings Online
The Yule Festival is back again in Lord of the Rings Online, and this time it has even more content. According to a recent developer diary, Winter-home has been revamped, and there have been a number of new quests added to the area in order to make it a more appealing destination during the event.
MapleStory
MapleStory has added both a Christmas tree cultivation quest and what appears to be a Rudolph fetch quest. Of all the events listed, this is perhaps the most straightforward. There’s genuinely nothing to add here beyond the fact that there’s apparently an NPC in MapleStory named Gaga.
Rift
Rift’s Fae Yule has already been in full swing for quite some time, and the merriment continues with lovely decorations, quests and everything you might normally expect from a fantasy MMO’s winter celebration. What you might not expect are fights involving treants wrapped in Christmas lights. Happy holidays, indeed.
RuneScape
Mod Timbo didn’t get the memo that the holidays aren’t really a time for battling; his idea of a celebration is a special seasonal Clan Battlefield for all those out there who happen to be tracking down presents. Much like the spoils, to the victors go the presents.
Vindictus
Though it may be a mercenary game, Vindictus is getting in the holiday spirit in its own special way as well. Players can defend “goodies” that are being attacked on a sleigh, quest for the perfect scratching post and make tiny man-shaped cookies, in both gingerbread and snowman varieties. Did we mention one of the rewards is a pair of Santa-themed hotpants?
Warhammer Online
The Dwarf New Year’s festival of Keg End will be celebrated until Jan. 4 in the world of Warhammer Online. Both Order and Destruction will have the chance to play with new items, attempt new quests, fight new monsters and be festive in general. Be wary, though, as the celebration has apparently garnered the attention of giants.
Wizard 101
Wizard 101 is offering a great many deals and specials during the holiday season. From mounts made out of candy canes to arctic ninja pig pets, there’s something there for the wizard in everyone. Watch out, though, these deals won’t last forever, and once you’ve missed them, they’re gone. Some are already expired as of this posting.

World of Warcraft
As per usual, the Feast of Winter Veil is once more in full swing throughout Azeroth. Greatfather Winter (or Great-father Winter, if you’re rolling Horde) can be found in both Ironforge and Orgrimmar during the event. Not only will he have some goodies to distribute, but there are quests to be completed as well! Act quickly, though, as the event ends on Jan. 2.
