Worldless invites players to navigate the line between physical and astral planes in this 2D adventure platformer on November 21 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The unique setting of the turn-based game presents a world where the rules of existence are undefined. In their place is a reality based on light and dark polarities that are trapped in eternal conflict.

You’ll begin on the light side, tasked with finding your counterpart by navigating diverse environments full of light puzzle scenarios. But, beware, along the way players will be challenged to defend their polarity - and who knows what new results will come from it.

A mysterious new world

Worldless is structured as an interconnected world based around a central hub, linking players’ access to all different levels. As you explore the mysterious settling, fun situations take priority over difficulty, meaning you shouldn’t expect fall damage, environmental hazards, or even the dreaded “game over”.

Instead, the flow of exploration is at the heart of Worldless as curious players explore optional paths and discover the secrets they hold. As such, attention to detail has been paid to intuitive navigation skills allowing for faster and more acrobatic movements as well as rewards hidden in each new scenario. Make sure you explore every corner of the game where everything from a health upgrade to a challenging enemy may be lying in wait.

There’s a lot of emphasis on optional aspects too, allowing players to decide what they want to explore. You can navigate this from the schematic map, which highlights what areas have been cleared and where remains unexplored. Although, not everything is revealed here, meaning there’s plenty of joy to be had in discovering new secrets along the way.

Engaging and thoughtful play

The combat system of Worldless is where things get even more experimental as it merges 1v1 turn-based play with fast-paced action mechanics. The intent behind the combat is to encourage players to use reactions and dexterity, while never compromising on thoughtful decision making.

Each fight is structured around a time limit. Players must decide what actions to take before their enemy takes their turn to enter a defensive stance. Physical and magical options can be used and there are no resource limitations when in combat as the real restriction is acting against the clock.

Incoming attacks are signaled with visual cues: a horizontal flash warns that a physical attack is incoming while a vertical flash notifies of a magical assault inbound. Meanwhile, the aim of each encounter isn’t the same, with players given the opportunity to either defeat their opponent and progress or to also absorb them, allowing them a skill point for their troubles. The latter is done by filling the “Absorption Tank” of each enemy before their health bar is depleted through attacking and blocking.

Throughout, variety remains the name of the game in Worldless, with penalties for both repeated actions and utilizing the same blocks when fighting enemies. To add to this, new enemies will present new vulnerabilities, meaning you’ll need to adapt to each new scenario you encounter.

Worldless, above all, rewards creativity in its play, requiring you to remain thoughtful and engaged more than relying on button mashing. To complement this, every action has the ability to unlock the “Perfect Timing” skill too, allowing an extra level of mastery.

There’s no traditional level-up scenario in the game and players will instead find that experience will help them unlock new heights of execution. It’s particularly handy therefore that there’s no “game over” either. Instead, if you fail, you can either reenter the fight immediately or head in a new direction and return later.

With its extremely fast and action-packed combat, Worldless will keep you on your toes thanks to its unique challenge of maintaining player creativity within a time-stretched scenario. All the while, you’ll get to jump, glide, and dash through a mind-bending reality in pursuit of destiny. What more could you ask for?

Worldless is out on November 21 and you can wishlist it now on Steam.
