World of Nintendo
20 more freakish oddities from the mushroom kingdom and beyond
11)Wooden SNES
The noble art of squeezing big consoles into small boxes has a new winner. This portable SNES is made of wood and features a decent LCD screen, although we’ve no idea how long the batteries will keep going with that level of brightness.
Ramon Stokes, the ace modder whose work we’ve featured here in the past, was commissioned by Rockstar to produce this amazing corporate Wii with appropriate branding. Top stuff.
13)Galaxy DS
It’s a pretty convincing effort, showing a DS version of Super Mario Galaxy that’s controlled entirely with the stylus. Sounds like a great idea, although the author blew his chance of fooling the world when he stuck a message at the end suggesting the stars you collect on DS could be traded for Wii points.

If it hadn’t been for the popularity of the pioneering Space Invaders, Japan might not have become the centre of the videogame universe. And if that hadn’t happened then we might be grunting a grudging ‘meh’ over the likes of Super Pitfall Galaxy or Legend of Miner 2049er, hoping that someday somebody would figure out how to inject fun and personality into these soulless digital creations. You can celebrate the 30th anniversary of Year Zero with these horrifically expensive Japanese accessories.
15)Going green
Remember the Greenpeace survey that awarded Nintendo a big fat zero points for being environmentally calamitous? Now they’ve produced a video showing Mario actually pooing out a mushroom as he gazes upon a vast mountain of consoles. That’ll teach ’em! Yes, they won’t be manufacturing millions of energy-guzzling pieces of plastic after they’ve been bitten by this piece of political satire.
