WoW love ends in arrest for woman
Their eyes met across a crowded auction house, but it ended in disaster for a woman charged with trying to abduct a child
A 31-year-old woman who fell in love with an American teenage lad in World of Warcraft has been charged with trying to abduct a child. Let that be a lesson to you all...
Australian Tamara Broome was met by detectives in North Carolina at a train near the 17-year-old boy's home after flying to the States to sort things out with his parents.
According to Broome, the parents paid for Broome's travel overseas, and it is thought they may have done so to set her up. Police intervened before the pair could meet, and "She was charged with attempting to abduct a child after a 17-year-old boy was caught trying to board a flight to Australia," News.com.au reports.
Under North Carolina law, anyone 17 years of age or younger is classified as a minor. Ms. Broome first met the youth in World of Warcraft when he was 16.
Police said Broome came to the US with the intention of bringing the teenager back to Australia in order for them to be together. Apparently, the pair intended to marry.
Broome is being held at the Pitt County Detention Center in North Carolina on a $2.35 million bond. She is expected in court on July 11 and could get more than two years in prison, if convicted.
